About Me
Hello & Welcome!
I am Gayathri. Thanks for visiting my website.
I have a M.Sc., in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
My practice is called Anāhata-The Heart Mind therapy.
I named my practice this way because our heart is a mind in itself that harbours memories of the past and nurtures the visions of our future. To heal oneself holistically and to live a fulfilling future of our dreams, healing the heart of its painful memories is essential.
(Fun Fact: Research into testimonies gathered from people who have had heart transplants prove this).
My passion is helping people harness their own power and potential to lead a more meaningful life. I do this by helping individuals navigate their inner world and find balance. I believe in the power of therapy to transform lives and nurture well-being.
In my practice as a person-centred therapist, my philosophy is to consider and centre you as the experiencer, astute observer and active driver of your own life. For example, I believe that when you feel the life you have been living is causing you to experience discomfort, confusion, frustration, sadness and any other emotions, you may make a conscious choice to change it for yourself.
My role as a therapist is to create a space where openness, impartiality, safety, stability, trustworthiness, and confidentiality are prioritised.
A space where you feel your thoughts are allowed to be aloud without restriction and your feelings and emotions can have an expression.
My Approach
Non-Directive - Person Centered Approach
Directive - Motivational Interviewing Approach
I believe that you as a client know best what hurts and that you have within you the capacity to begin your healing.
Therefore, I provide an environment where you can experience
1. Unconditional positive regard - A deep acceptance of You.
2. Empathy - A willingness to understand You.
3. Congruence - A commitment to being genuine in our relationship with You.
These distinctive qualities, offered professionally and consistently, in a safe, supportive and reflective therapeutic environment has the benefit of causing change.
I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to guide clients who require more goal-oriented approach towards change.
For e.g., for presenting issues such as Addiction, Depression and Lack of motivation MI is proved to be beneficial.
1. Directive - This is a guiding style communication that follows your own motivation for change.
2. Client's Autonomy - This style focusses on empowering you by focussing on your own capacity and importance for change.
3. Therapist way of being - The process is facilitated by the therapist remaining respectful and curious of your process of change.
